Monsanto runs ads in rural America to sway farmers on Syngenta deal

Posted online
Monsanto Co. is trying to reach farmers through rural newspapers in the U.S. to persuade them they’d benefit from a merger between the company and fellow agribusiness giant Syngenta AG, according to the St. Louis Business Journal.

The ad has run in 23 rural markets and features a letter from Monsanto CEO Hugh Grant.

“The combination with Syngenta would create a portfolio of choices and solutions that can improve your day-to-day operations in the near term,” Grant said in the ad. “But more importantly, this combination would create a new company focused on accelerating innovation and sustainability in agriculture to better meet the needs of your business and that of the planet we share for the future.”
