Monsanto layoffs reach STL-area offices

Posted online
Agrochemical giant Monsanto Co. (NYSE: MON) confirmed some of the job cuts announced this fall include staff reductions to the company’s St. Louis-area offices.

In October, officials with St. Louis-based Monsanto announced the company would lay off 2,600 workers over the next 12 to 18 months as part of efforts to streamline operations and reduce costs. On Friday, a Monsanto spokeswoman said some of those layoffs have already taken place, including at offices in the St. Louis area.

She declined to say how many employees have received pink slips at the company’s Creve Coeur and Chesterfield facilities.

The broader job-cutting effort is designed to save Monsanto $275 million to $300 million annually by the end of fiscal 2017.
