St. Louis-based agricultural giant Monsanto Co. is calling for more controls on agrochemicals, including weed-killers such as its Roundup product, in response to what might be excessive use of pesticides in Argentina, according to the St. Louis Business Journal.
A recent Associated Press report identified dozens of cases there where pesticides were being applied incorrectly. The uncontrolled applications are said to be the cause of growing health problems in the country.
Monsanto is disputing some of the claims as too broad and not applicable to its Roundup line. Argentine farmers are said to use double the amount of agrochemicals of what U.S. farmers apply, according to the report.
