MOHELA opens sale to public comment

Posted online
A public meeting has been scheduled for the Missouri Higher Education Loan Authority to gather input on its plan to sell a portion of its assets to a private entity.

The MOHELA board will begin taking comments at 12:30 p.m. March 10 at the Lodge of the Four Seasons in Lake of the Ozarks.

Comments may be submitted at the meeting, by e-mail to publiccomments@mohela.com or by mail to MOHELA Public Comment, Attention: Raymond H. Bayer, 633 Spirit Drive, Chesterfield, MO 63005-1243.

All written or e-mailed correspondence received by March 6 will be presented to the MOHELA board for review before the meeting.

MOHELA approved Jan. 31 a plan to sell $2.4 billion of its consolidated loan assets but was later sued by Attorney General Jay Nixon for allegedly violating Missouri’s Sunshine Law by planning a sale without public input.

If the plan is re-approved, it is expected to generate about $450 million for the state’s colleges and universities.
