MoDOT will recommend the plan Sept. 12 to the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission.
The same proposal was displayed July 17 at a public meeting with MoDOT. After hearing concerns from property owners along Highway 266, MoDOT conducted further study on widening that section of the roadway, instead of building a new one north of the existing roadway.
MoDOT has opted to relocate because it’s more economical, safer during construction and can be completed a year earlier, MoDOT Springfield District Engineer Kirk Juranas said in a news release. The cost to relocate would be about $8.9 million, versus $11.4 million to widen the road.
Both plans include improvements to the Interstate-44/Highway 266 interchange, and both prohibit direct access to that stretch of Highway 266 from adjacent private property.
The new roadway will handle traffic from Springfield-Branson National Airport’s new terminal, scheduled to open in December 2008.
MoDOT will hold a public informational meeting 6:30–7:30 p.m. Aug. 30 at its Springfield office, 3025 E. Kearney St., to discuss the proposal.[[In-content Ad]]
