The Missouri Department of Transportation is seeking feedback on its Statewide Transportation Improvement Program for the remainder of the decade.
The draft STIP plan, covering fiscal years 2026-30, was presented to the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission, which governs MoDOT, on May 7, starting a 30-day public feedback period, according to a news release. The 557-page draft STIP is available at MoDOT's website.
Included in the draft STIP plan is $13.2 billion in federal and state revenues for transportation projects, with $9.5 billion of that for road and bridge construction contractor awards. The STIP plan includes $577.5 million for Interstate 44 as part of the Forward 44 initiative to study and improve the corridor.
“The thousands of projects that have been brought to fruition over the years through the STIP process have been a success because of the coordination that MoDOT has with our local planning partners across the state,” MoDOT Director Ed Hassinger said in the release. “Working closely with those partners and stakeholders and listening to the needs of the communities is paramount when it comes to planning the next five years – and thanks to the foresight of the Missouri legislature, that includes the large-scale interstate projects, such as I-70 and I-44, low-volume routes and all the priorities in between.”
The 2026-30 draft STIP lists myriad Greene County highway and bridge projects that have been funded for right-of-way acquisition and/or construction during the five-year period between July 1, 2025, and June 30, 2030.
Those include the following:
• Pavement resurfacing from Route 266 to I-44
• Capital improvements on Kansas Expressway from Grand Street to Sunshine Street
• Bridge painting over James River Freeway on Republic Road and over I-44 on Chestnut Expressway
• Signal upgrades at I-44, Main Avenue, Campbell Avenue, Benton Avenue, Grant Avenue, Boonville Avenue, Broadway Avenue and Eastgate Avenue
• Capital improvements from 0.5 miles east of Route 65 to Routes NN and J
