MoDOT releases 2005 analysis

Posted online
The average transportation construction project in Missouri cost $15,463 per day in 2005, according to a report issued by the Missouri Department of Transportation.

MoDOT Feb. 22 released its quarterly publication, the Tracker, containing 112 performance measures to help determine where road improvements are needed and whether Missourians are getting a good return on their transportation investments.

The fourth-quarter 2005 Tracker showed 80 percent of MoDOT construction projects were completed on time during the year, and 52 percent of them cost less than the amount budgeted.

Findings also showed fatalities on Missouri highways increased 10 percent last year to 1,234, up from 1,130 in 2004.

The report states 47 percent of Missouri’s major highways were in good condition at the end of 2004, with 67 percent of small highways in good condition.

For the quarter, MoDOT received nearly 200,000 customer calls and other contacts, and 90 percent of those were handled within 24 hours.

In the last six months of 2005, 43 percent of MoDOT vehicles used alternative fuels, according to the report.

“The Tracker is the public’s window into MoDOT and the transportation system we’re responsible for,” said Pete Rahn, department director, in a news release. “It spells out what’s working, as well as where we’ve got to improve.”[[In-content Ad]]
