MoDOT kicks off major Glenstone/I-44 project

Posted online
An 18-month reconstruction project at Glenstone Avenue and Interstate 44 that will result in multiple lane closings and slowdowns begins this week.

An open house-style public information meeting will be 4:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday at Praise Assembly of God, 3535 N. Glenstone Ave. Missouri Department of Transportation engineers, inspectors and contract supervisors will be on hand to discuss the project timeline and impacts on traffic, according to a news release.

The project involves:

• Converting the cloverleaf interchange to a diamond interchange, replacing the two bridges over I-44 and adding traffic signals at the new ramps on Glenstone;

• Widening Greene County Route H to three lanes between I-44 and Valley Water Mill Road north of Springfield; and

• Setting up detours to send traffic along highways 65, 60 and 360, as well as along Highway 65, Kearney Street and Glenstone or Kansas Expressway.

Emery Sapp & Sons of Columbia is the prime contractor for the $8.3 million project. The city of Springfield and Greene County each are putting in $1.5 million for the Route H widening project.

Project completion is scheduled for July 1, 2010.
