The Missouri Department of Transpor-tation has released its annual report for the state's fiscal year 2001.
According to a MoDOT news release, the report details major projects, department goals and other milestones MoDOT achieved during fiscal year 2001, which was July 1, 2000, through June 30, 2001.
The report also illustrates MoDOT's accountability to the people for its performance.
The report, which includes a variety of pertinent information for Missouri citizens, legislators and all parties interested in the future of the state's transportation, is included in MoDOT's quarterly magazine, Pathways.
Including the report in the magazine was a measure by the agency to cut costs and maximize distribution, the release stated.
MoDOT Director Henry Hungerbeel-er, in his introduction of the annual report, stressed MoDOT's dedication to Missouri's transportation needs and summarizes the department's vision for the future.
"In addition to constructing and maintaining highways, MoDOT also administers Missouri's rail, aviation and waterways programs," Hungerbeeler said.
"Many people don't realize the depth of MoDOT's responsibilities. Our job doesn't end with highways," Hunger-beeler added.
A list of MoDOT's achievements for the year are in the report.
Those achievements include advancements in equal employment opportuni-ty, passage of key safety legislation and a record $908 million in construction pro-jects awarded.
Construction highlights from around Missouri are included in the report, which details progress made on several major MoDOT projects.
The report also looks to the future of the state's transportation system, and it outlines MoDOT's shift in philosophy from system expansion to rehabilitation and repair.
"Today, Missouri stands at a crossroads. We want to meet the state's transportation needs in a first-class manner, but our current resources are insufficient. The decisions Missourians make in the coming months will affect the state of the transportation system for years to come," Hungerbeeler said.
Distribution of Pathways and the 2001 annual report began in mid-December 2001.
Copies are available via the agency's Web site, www.modot.state.mo.us.
