Through Oct. 6, officials will look at finished or ongoing improvements on 2,200 miles of Missouri’s most traveled highways, as part of the initiative that began in early 2005. All projects are scheduled for completion by the end of this year – a year earlier than first expected.
At the sites of finished projects, officials will approve the pavement, markings and safety features. Work zones, time schedules and quality of work will be inspected at ongoing construction sites.
The initiative’s projects are funded by nearly $190 million from Amendment 3, approved by voters in November 2004. About 75 percent of the program’s roads were reported as in fair to poor condition at the beginning of 2005.
Fall projects in the Springfield area include resurfacing/diamond-grinding along Interstate 44, Highway 65, Glenstone Avenue, Chestnut Expressway and Kansas Expressway; an interchange reconstruction on I-44 at Highway 65; and new cable and guardrail on I-44 and Route 360.
