The Missouri Department of Transportation has added a new council charged with the task of promoting diversity in employment, procurement and construction.
"MoDOT is committed to becoming an even more diverse organization and ensuring everyone has a chance to do business with the department,” Kevin Keith, director of MoDOT, said in a news release. “This council will help MoDOT develop a broader perspective in all the work we do so we will become a more inclusive employer and business partner."
The MoDOT Statewide Inclusion Advisory Council will consist of members with a statewide perspective of diversity and will be selected from a wide range of community-based organizations, contractors, and women- and minority-owned businesses and organizations, according to the release.
Rudy Nickens, director of MoDOT's Equal Opportunity and Diversity Division, will head the new council.
The Statewide Inclusion Advisory Council will meet on a regular basis and schedule meetings with MoDOT leadership and the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission, providing learning opportunities and recommendations for diversity improvement, Nickens said.
Currently, MoDOT is in the process of finding "interested and passionate" people to form the council, he said.
