MoDOT: I-70 improvements will cost $2-$4B

Posted online
Rehabbing the 200 miles of Interstate 70 between St. Louis and Kansas City isn’t going to be cheap. In fact, the Missouri Department of Transportation estimates it’s going to cost between $2 billion and $4 billion.

The Kansas City Business Journal reports, on Tuesday, Gov. Jay Nixon told the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission to provide him a report by the end of the year looking into establishing tolls on the state's section of the interstate. MoDOT made it clear, the department and the state of Missouri alone cannot pay for necessary improvements.

Implementation of any plan would take at least six to eight years and would provide an estimated economic impact of $29.5 billion during the life of the project.
