Moderna became the second company to announce a COVID-19 candidate vaccine with more than 90% effectiveness.
Moderna officials said the company's vaccine developed in partnership with the government appears to be 94.5% effective against the disease.
Earlier this month, Pfizer and German partner BioNTech announced their vaccine had an effectiveness rate of more than 90%.
