Missouri’s nonfarm payroll employment decreased by 5,700 jobs in April, pushing an increase in the jobless rate.

The Show-Me State’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate ticked up a tenth of a point to 5.7 percent last month. However, the April jobless rate was 0.6 percent points lower than the same month of 2014, according to a Missouri Department of Economic Development news release.

Industries that increased payroll ranks in April include professional and business services, at 1,600 jobs; construction, at 1,500; and administration and support services, at 1,300.

Data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics put the U.S. unemployment rate at 5.4 percent in April, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.[[In-content Ad]]
