Mo. senators want to rename D.C.'s Union Station for Truman

Posted online
On Harry S. Truman’s 130th birthday yesterday, Missouri Sens. Roy Blunt and Claire McCaskill introduced a bill to rename Washington, D.C.’s iconic train station as the Harry S. Truman Union Station.

Congress has the authority to rename Union Station, since the transportation hub is owned by the federal government, according to Roll Call. The Democratic McCaskill and Republican co-sponsor Blunt serve together on the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, which will have jurisdiction over the bill.

Roll Call said the 1908-built building has significance to Truman’s tenure because he began and ended a 30,000-mile “whistle-stop campaign” at Union Station in 1948, when he decided to run for a full term in the White House.
