Mo. retailers readying for sales tax holiday weekend

Posted online
Retailers across the state are preparing for the shopping holiday weekend, when certain back-to-school items will be exempt from the state’s 4.225 percent sales tax.

According to the Missouri Department of Revenue, several area cities, including Springfield, are opting out of making local sales taxes exempt, which means only state sales taxes will be deducted from such purchases as clothing, school supplies and computers.

Other area cities still collecting local sales taxes over the weekend include Ash Grove, Battlefield, Bolivar, Branson, Cassville, El Dorado Springs, Fair Grove, Halfway, Hollister,  Marshfield, Monett, Mount Vernon, Nixa, Ozark, Reeds Spring, Rockaway Beach, Stockton, Walnut Grove and Willard.
