The Missouri Lottery transferred $267.3 million to state for public education purposes during fiscal 2014, a 7.4 percent decrease from a record $288.8 million last fiscal year.

Roughly 24.5 cents of every $1 spent on Missouri Lottery tickets goes toward public education, with 64.7 cents per $1 going to players as prize winnings, 6.2 cents per $1 paying retailers via commissions, incentives and bonuses, and 4.6 cents going toward administrative costs, according to MoLottery.com.

Since Missouri Lottery sales began in 1986, over $4.8 billion has been transferred to the state for public education. Fiscal 2014 projects funding include the A+ Scholarship Program, Foundation Program and Access Missouri, the release said.

In fiscal 2013, $12.5 million went toward Greene County public education, including $7.4 million for Missouri State University and $434,859 for Ozarks Technical Community College, according to the website.
