MO gas prices outpace national average

Missouri average retail gasoline prices rose 8 cents during the week of March 21-27, averaging $3.46 a gallon March 27.

State prices have increased 26.1 cents per gallon during the last month and are up 86.6 cents per gallon year-to-date, according to a GasBuddy.com news release.

The least expensive gas in the state was available for $3.22 a gallon at Joe's Villa Package Store in Poplar Bluff, as of 9 a.m. The most expensive gas could be found for $3.69 a gallon at two stations in Town and Country and one station in Concord. Both Town and Country and Concord are near St. Louis.

The lowest price in Springfield, which also tied for the second cheapest gas in the state, was available for $3.24 a gallon at Shell, 1687 S. State Highway North.

Nationally, average gas prices increased 3.4 cents during the week, averaging $3.56 a gallon March 27. The national average has increased 21.5 cents per gallon during the last month and 76.5 cents per gallon during the last year.

The U.S. price per barrel for crude oil was $103.71 as of March 18, compared to $77.26 per barrel a year before, according to the most recent data available from the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

May light sweet crude oil futures were trading at $104.11 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange as of 9:05 a.m., according to the CME Group.
