The average Missouri gas price fell 10.7 cents during the past week to land at $2.16 per gallon on Labor Day, according to industry tracker
GasBuddy.com.
Yesterday’s price was 25 cents lower than a month ago and $1.07 lower than a year ago. The national average, which moved down 6 cents during the past week, has decreased by 20 cents during the past month and by $1.04 during the past year, according to a news release.
"Not only did Labor Day weekend see millions of Americans take to the road and spend far less than they did last year at the pump, but a growing number of them were able to fill up at under $2 per gallon for the summer's last hurrah," said Patrick DeHaan, GasBuddy senior petroleum analyst, in the release. "Better than one in 10 stations in the country now offer gasoline prices at $1.99 per gallon or less, and gas prices in 48 of the nation's 50 states fell in the run-up to the holiday itself, showing that holidays aren't always a catalyst for price increases.”
In Missouri, the lowest price for gas was available this morning for $1.79 per gallon at a filling station in Arnold, near St. Louis, according to
MissouriGasPrices.com.
With an average this morning of $2.15 per gallon, Missouri ranked No. 9 on
GasBuddy’s list of the lowest averages in the nation. At $1.96 per gallon, South Carolina topped the list, and Alaska was at the bottom with its $3.31 per gallon average.
The lowest price for gas in Springfield was $2.14 per gallon at seven stations:
• Conoco, 1357 S. Glenstone Ave.;
• Independent auto service station, 2208 S. Glenstone Ave.;
• Murphy USA, 3516 W. Sunshine Ave.;
• Sam’s Club, 745 W. El Camino Alto Drive; and
• Signal stores at 2415 S. Campbell Ave., 960 S. Glenstone Ave. and 2810 E. Battlefield Road.
As of 9:33 a.m.,
West Texas Intermediate crude oil was trading at $44.82 per barrel, compared to $44.26 last Monday morning.
Light sweet crude oil futures for October were trading at $44.71.
