At $2.24 per gallon this morning, the Show-Me State ranked No. 1 for the third consecutive week on GasBuddy.com’s list of the lowest gas averages in the nation.

With the latest decrease, Missouri has witnessed a month-to-month gas price decrease of 44.5 cents and year-to-year decrease of 61.8 cents. The U.S. average, which decreased 8.3 cents during the past week to land at $2.57 per gallon yesterday, has dropped 33.2 cents during the past month and 67 cents during the past year, according to a news release.

“As of Sunday evening, the number of states that saw at least one station at $1.99 or less had jumped to 13 from just three a week ago, and included Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Indiana, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas and Virginia,” GasBuddy senior petroleum analyst Patrick DeHaan said in the release. “Motorists are saving $270 million every day versus pump prices a year ago.”

In Missouri, 13 filling stations were selling gas below the $2 mark this morning, including four in Republic. The lowest price for Springfieldians was $2.07 per gallon at both Sam’s Club stores, and prices elsewhere ranged from $2.09 per gallon to $2.19 per gallon, according to GasBuddy’s MissouriGasPrices.com.
