MO gas average increases 6 cents

Posted online
Missouri's average retail gasoline price rose 5.8 cents during Thanksgiving week to $3.14 per gallon yesterday.

The national average, however, held steady at $3.43 per gallon, according to a GasBuddy.com news release.

"While Thanksgiving is now behind us, the stigma of record high gasoline prices is not," GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan said in the release. "Thanksgiving Day 2012 featured the highest ever daily average for the holiday, beating out 2011 by more than 10 cents per gallon.

"The national average may continue to moderate slightly by Christmas, but I'm not expecting significant decreases or increases in the national average in the short term at this point."

Missouri's average yesterday represented a 6.8-cent decrease compared to the same day a month ago and a 11.2-cent increase from same day in 2011, while the national average yesterday showed a decrease of 14.1 cents from a month ago and an increase of 11 cents from a year ago.

Compared to the same time last week, Missouri dropped three spots to No. 5 this morning on GasBuddy.com's list of the lowest gas averages by state. Missouri tied Arkansas at an average of $3.16 per gallon. With an average of $3.12 per gallon, Oklahoma held the top spot, followed by Texas, at $3.13 per gallon, and South Carolina, at $3.15 per gallon.

In Missouri, the least expensive gas in the state was available for $2.93 per gallon at a filling station in Independence. At $3.59 per gallon, a station in Cape Girardeau had the most expensive gas in Missouri, according to MissouriGasPrices.com.

The lowest price in Springfield, $3.12 per gallon, could be found at Brentwood Service Center, 2208 S. Glenstone Ave.

West Texas Intermediate crude oil was trading at $87.57 per barrel as of 9:30 a.m., compared to a 52-week range of $77.56 to $109.95. Light sweet crude oil futures for January were trading at $87.66 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.[[In-content Ad]]
