MO college savings plan ranks No. 1 in U.S.

Posted online
National website SavingforCollege.com has again ranked Missouri's MOST 529 Advisor Plan as the top-performing plan nationwide among all adviser-sold 529 plans.

The quarterly ranking is based on one-year performance, according to a news release from State Treasurer Clint Zweifel's office, and this is the third quarter in a row that Missouri’s plan has ranked No. 1.

The MOST 529 Advisor Plan (link to www.most529advisor.com.) is distributed by DWS Investments, which is the U.S. retail brand of Deutsche Bank’s global asset management division, and Upromise Investments serves as program manager.

“September is College Savings Month, a great time to discuss how more Missourians than ever are saving for college,” Zweifel said in the release. “Nearly 15,000 account owners have taken advantage of the No. 1- ranked MOST 529 Advisor Plan by investing more than $157 million.”

Funds in the MOST plan grow tax-deferred, and tax-free withdrawals can be made for qualified higher education expenses. Contributions qualify for state income tax deductions, the release said.
