Mo. business creation filings down in May, largely up over past decade

Missouri for-profit business creation filings were down slightly in May compared to a year earlier, but still higher than the same month in every other year for the past decade, according to data released by Secretary of State Jason Kander's office.

During May, 4,028 filings were submitted, a 1.2 percent decrease compared to 4,075 in May 2013. This May beats all other comparative months for the last 10 years, the closest being 3,868 in May 2006. May figures 2004-2014 ranged from 2,919 in 2009 to 4,075 last year.

Last month, limited liability companies made up the vast majority of business creation filings, at 3,567, according to the provided data.

In 2013, filings reached their second-highest level - 47,463 - in the past two decades. During the 20-year period, 2011 was the largest year, with 42,712 business filings. During the time period, filings ranged from a low point of 18,245 to 47,712.[[In-content Ad]]
