Average retail gasoline prices in Missouri fell 8.2 cents during the week of Sept. 12-18, averaging $3.35 per gallon yesterday.
Missouri held its No. 2 ranking for the second week in a row on
GasBuddy.com's list of lowest gas price averages by state, which showed South Carolina at the top spot.
State gas prices yesterday were 4.5 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and 78.7 cents per gallon higher than the same day a year ago. The national average - which fell 4.2 cents per gallon during the week to $3.61 per gallon - has increased 2.4 cents per gallon during the last month and 88 cents per gallon during the last year, according to a GasBuddy.com news release.
As of 9:10 a.m., Missouri's gas costs were as low as $3 per gallon at a filling station in Carl Junction. The most expensive gas in the state was $3.71 per gallon, available at a station in Kansas City.
The lowest cost in Springfield, $3.33 per gallon, was selling at Sam's Club, 745 W. El Camino Alto Drive, according to MissouriGasPrices.com
According to the
CME Group, light sweet crude oil futures for October were trading at $85.27 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange as of 9:14 a.m. On the morning of Sept. 12, October futures were trading at $87.48.
In
August's Midwest Consumer Price Index for all urban consumers, energy prices dropped by 0.7 percent, largely due to a third straight month of decreased motor fuel prices, according to recently released data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
