Frank Robinson, the first black manager in Major League Baseball, died yesterday. He was 83.
He was fist hired as manager in 1975 by the Cleveland Indians and went on to manage San Francisco, Baltimore and Montreal. He was the first manager of the Washington Nationals after the franchise moved from Montreal.
As a player in the MLB, Robinson hit 586 career home runs and won the Triple Crown when he helped lead the Baltimore Orioles in 1966 to their first World Series championship.
In 2005, former President George W. Bush presented Robinson with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civil honor in the nation.
