Mizzou football coach Pinkel to retire

Gary Pinkel, the head coach of the University of Missouri football team who stood with players in recent protests over racial issues, announced Friday he would retire for health reasons.

The 63-year-old was diagnosed in May with lymphoma, a type of non-Hodgkin blood cancer.

On Saturday, the Tigers beat the Brigham Young University Cougars 20-16 .

Pinkel, who said the retirement is not related to the recent incidents at Mizzou, is the most winning coach in the history of Missouri.
