Mizzou cuts maintenance staff

Starting July 1, some 16,000 University of Missouri-Columbia employees may be forced to clean their own trash.

The school is cutting 50 maintenance positions via layoffs and attrition.

The eliminations are part of a nearly $5.5 million plan to reduce spending within Mizzou's operations department, which is responsible for cleaning, maintaining and repairing the school’s buildings.
