Mitsubishi president resigning over scandal

Mitsubishi Motors Corp. President and Chief Operating Officer Tetsuro Aikawa plans to step down next month in the wake of the company's fuel-economy rigging scandal.

Executive Vice President Ryugo Nakao also is stepping down in June.

Mitsubishi admitted to manipulating data in certain vehicles sold in Japan, as well as using an illegal testing method in several models for 25 years in the country.

Last week, Nissan Motor Co. agreed to take a 34 percent controlling stake in Mitsubishi. The deal is valued at more than $2 billion.
