Missouri’s New Gun Law: Workplace Considerations

Posted online

Springfield Police Chief Paul Williams discusses Senate bill 656, which allows Missourians to carry firearms in the state without training and without a permit and how business owners may want to approach this new law. He explains the two different parts of the law, the Castle Doctrine or Stand Your Ground provision, which takes effect October 14, 2016, and the provision allowing concealed carry without a permit, which will not take effect until January 1, 2017. He explains the options business owners have on whether or not they choose to allow weapons to be carried by employees and/or customers on their business’s premises. He advises that business owners consult their legal counsel before making any changes to current policies regarding firearms.
