The organization says 113,147 low-income seniors, veterans and people with disabilities need to claim their checks, which are part of a national economic stimulus plan approved by President Bush early this year.
Many of the checks belong to people who did not need to file tax returns this year because their incomes were too low, according to a news release. A tax return is necessary to receive a stimulus check, however.
Missourians have until Oct. 15 to file a return.
For those needing assistance to receive a stimulus payment, the AARP and National Council on Aging offers this online tool.
For those who need assistance to access a stimulus payment, help is available at Southwest Center for Independent Living, Southwest Office on Aging and The VantAge Point, all in Springfield, and The Independent Living Center in Joplin, the release said.
