Last edited 2:05 p.m., Sept. 20, 2013Fourteen people have been selected this year to receive the Missourian Award and will be honored at a banquet this week in Jefferson City.
The award recognizes native Missourians and, in some cases, longtime state residents who have made significant contributions to the state in the fields of civics, business, arts or politics, according to TheMissourianAward.org.
The 2013 recipients are:
- Bob Beine, president of Beine Automotive Group;
- Cheryl Burnett, director of development at Missouri State University;
- Leon Combs, retired businessman and philanthropist;
- Charles Edwards, former CEO of CoxHealth, who is being recognized posthumously;
- Rudy Farber, past president and CEO of Community Bank and Trust;
- former Missouri Rep. Tim Harlan, D-Columbia;
- Dwayne Holden, president and CEO of Custom Metalcraft Inc.;
- C.J. Huff, superintendent of Joplin Schools;
- Norm Ridder, superintendent of Springfield Public Schools;
- Dr. Bharat Shah, section chairman and plastic surgeon with Mercy Clinic Plastic Surgery and medical director of Mercy Medical Spa;
- retired NCAA basketball coach Tom Smith;
- Erick Taylor, president and CEO of Pyramid Foods;
- Glenna Wallace, chief of the Eastern Shawnee; and
- Mike Williamson, past president and CEO of Empire Bank.
The awards banquet is scheduled Aug. 10 in Jefferson City, according to a news release.
