Missouri Wal-Mart stores join generic drug program

Posted online
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. rolled out its $4 generic prescription drug program Thursday in its 130 stores in Missouri.

The program includes 314 generic prescriptions available for up to 30-day supplies at commonly prescribed dosages.

After launching the program in 15 states earlier this month, Wal-Mart pharmacies filled more than 152,000 new prescriptions within four days. That demand prompted the company to bring the program to Missouri and 11 other states Thursday and push to roll it out quickly in remaining states.

Wal-Mart estimates that its list of $4 generic drugs represents 25 percent of prescriptions dispensed at pharmacies nationwide, according to a company news release. The list also includes 14 of the top 20 prescribed medications in the country.[[In-content Ad]]
