Missouri Supreme Court expands definition of sex discrimination

The Missouri Supreme Court expanded the definition of sex discrimination in a major ruling this week.

The Tuesday ruling means employers may not discriminate against people who do not conform to gender sterotypes.

“Sex discrimination is discrimination, it is prohibited by the (Human Rights Act), and an employee may demonstrate this discrimination through evidence of sexual stereotyping,” Judge George Draper III wrote for the court.

Missouri law does not recognize sexual orientation under sex discrimination rules.
