Missouri State Parks director retires without public notice

Posted online

Bill Ellis, director of Missouri State Parks, retired Nov. 15 without public notice, the Springfield News-Leader reports.

Ellis had led the Department of Natural Resources division since June 2017.

Ellis has advocated for parks that are currently in development, including Ozark Mountain State Park near Branson.

A DNR spokesperson acknowledged a public announcement was not made about Ellis' retirement. The spokesperson provided a letter acting DNR Director Dru Buntin sent to staff on Nov. 4, thanking Ellis "for his service" and for helping "to make state parks accessible to everyone."
