The Missouri State Board of Education has elected two new leaders, both of whom have ties to Springfield.
According to an announcement from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, Mary Schrag and Brooks Miller were elected to the positions of board president and vice president, respectively, at today’s meeting.
Schrag, of West Plains, has served on the board since 2019. A member of the Missouri State University Board of Governors from 2002 to 2011, Schrag is the CEO and principal of Physical Therapy Specialists Clinic Inc. She is also married to newly elected Springfield Mayor Jeff Schrag. In 2023, the Schrags sold a majority stake in Mother’s Brewing Co. and retained a minority stake, according to past reporting.
Miller, the former president and CEO of the Jordan Community Health Center, was approved to join the state board last month.
Miller, who now lives in Sunrise Beach, previously served on the Truman State University Board of Governors and as vice president of the Board of Public Utilities, which manages City Utilities of Springfield.
