Missouri Sports Hall of Fame bringing Peyton Manning to town

Posted online

Officials at the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame are organizing a new fundraiser and for the inaugural event next month, they’re bringing to town NFL Hall of Famer Peyton Manning.

Dubbed Champions Gala, the dinner is scheduled April 4 at University Plaza Hotel & Convention Center, and ticket and sponsor proceeds will benefit Special Olympics Missouri and Champions Committed to Kids, according to a news release.

“As a staff, we have been working for months on planning an elite event that both inspires and entertains,” said Byron Shive, CEO and executive director of the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame, in the release. “We are very excited to recognize our local charity partner, Champions Committed To Kids, and Special Olympics Missouri, our statewide charity partner for 2024.”

The gala will begin with a VIP reception, followed by dinner, recognition of the charities and a Q&A with Manning, a two-time Super Bowl champ and five-time MVP. He retired in 2016, after playing 18 seasons, and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 2021. More recently, Manning and brother Eli, also a former NFL quarterback, co-host ESPN’s “ManningCast” of Monday Night Football games.

Organizers say they’re creating a unique experience for sports fans, while raising charitable funds and revenue for the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit that relies on fundraising events such as induction ceremonies, golf tournaments, auctions and special events.

Ticket prices are set at $250 apiece and $2,000 for a table of 10, said hall spokesperson Kary Booher. He declined to disclose the event budget and Manning’s appearance fee.

“This event is not just a celebration of athletic excellence, but also a testament to the power of community and generosity in shaping a brighter future for our youth,” said Todd Edwards, co-founder of Champions Committed to Kids, in the release.

His organization provides children with chronic illnesses or disabilities a chance to join area athletic teams as nonplaying members to build friendships and experience camaraderie.

“We are deeply grateful for the overwhelming support we’ve received, which will be instrumental in our mission to make a positive impact in the lives of local children,” he added. “We look forward to joining the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in what promises to be a memorable and inspiring evening.”
