Missouri ranks high in CNBC state business report

Posted online
Missouri ranked No. 5 in the cost of doing business category of the "America's Top States for Business 2010" CNBC report released last week.

To determine the winners in the category, CNBC factored in tax burden, utility costs, cost of wages, compensation insurance and office and industrial rental costs, according to the report.

Missouri ranked 17th overall.

CNBC rated states based on nine other categories: work force, quality of life, economy, transportation, technology and innovation, education, business friendliness, access to capital and cost of living.

Missouri also ranked seventh in transportation and ninth in cost of living.

The No. 1 ranked state was Texas.
