Posted online
Approximately 716,700 people in Missouri enrolled in Medicare’s new Part D prescription drug coverage plan, ranking the state 15th in enrollment numbers across the country, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The department announced June 14 that about 38.2 million people with Medicare in the United States had signed up for the drug plan, for which enrollment ended May 15.

About 2 million of those beneficiaries signed up in the final two weeks of enrollment.

Missouri accounts for 2 percent of the country’s total enrollment.

Total beneficiaries in the state include 251,885 people with a stand-alone drug plan and 150,456 who were automatically enrolled.

In southwest Missouri, enrollment hit 33,747 in Greene County, 7,412 in Christian County, 2,601 in Dallas County, 4,106 in Polk County and 4,393 in Webster County.

About 90 percent of people with Medicare across the country signed up for the plan during the six-month enrollment period, and more than 3.5 million Part D prescriptions are being filled each day, according to the department’s report.[[In-content Ad]]
