The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services has modernized the state's Women, Infants and Children Program.
The federal food assistance program for low-income women and children now has the option for benefits to be loaded onto cards remotely. Previously, participants had to physically visit an office to have benefits loaded onto their cards.
Roughly 41% of eligible Missourians were enrolled in WIC as of 2022. That compares with the national average of 54%.
