Missouri lawmakers are introducing legislation to allow college athletes to be paid.
Rep. Nick Schroer, an O’Fallon Republican, prefiled legislation ahead of the 2020 session. Rep. Wes Rogers, D-Kansas City, plans to introduce a similar bill later this month, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
“I think that it’s just time to make sure these kids are able to — I hate to use the word ‘profit’ — but able to just get what’s fair after they put their hearts and souls into these programs,” Rogers said.
The legislation would allow athletes to profit from their name and image.
