A bill that would eliminate the income tax by expanding the state sales tax won initial approval in the Missouri House of Representatives.
Another vote is needed in the House, and the legislation also must be approved by the Senate. If it earns those approvals, the legislation would be placed in front of voters later this year.
The income tax generates roughly 65% of the state’s annual general revenue.
