Missouri honors green sales tax holiday

Posted online
The Missouri Department of Revenue has scheduled the Show-Me Green Sales Tax Holiday for April 19–25, during which purchases of an Energy Star-rated appliance will not be assessed the state's 4.225 percent sales tax.

Savings will be increased in areas where local entities have agreed to waive sales taxes as well, though only the city of Republic is on the opt-in list of area taxing districts waving their sales tax for the event.

"People can go green by purchasing energy-efficient appliances, they can save green when they don’t have to pay the state sales tax and reap the benefits of lower utility bills, and appliance retailers can make green when citizens come to buy appliances," said Missouri DOR Director Alana M. Barragán-Scott in a news release.

The tax break is good for purchases of Energy Star-rated clothes washers, refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, water heaters, furnaces, air conditioners and heat pumps. Clothes dryers, trash compactors, conventional ovens, ranges and stoves are not eligible because they have not met federal Energy Star requirements.[[In-content Ad]]
