The funding comes from two MFH programs: Basic Support, which funds organizations’ ongoing staff and operations costs, and the MFH Primary Care Access Initiative, which works to improve community access to quality health care.
Local organizations receiving support are:
• Developmental Center of the Ozarks in Springfield, which received $100,000 to provide health care services to individuals with developmental disabilities and special health needs;
• The Kitchen Inc. in Springfield, which received $100,000 for emergency shelter, medical and dental services for those who can’t afford it;
• National Alliance on Mental Illness Southwest Missouri chapter in Springfield, which received $100,000 to provide services to individuals affected by mental illness;
• Ozarks Regional YMCA in Springfield, which received $200,000 for wellness and nutrition services;
• Pregnancy Care Center in Springfield, which received $100,000 for pregnancy testing and counseling;
• Advocates for a Healthy Community Inc. in Springfield, which received $900,000 for its $3.4 million health care center for pediatric and women’s services;
• Stone County Assistance Team-Lakes Area Child Advocacy Center in Branson West, which received $43,560 for forensic interviews and exams of child abuse victims;
• Lafayette House in Joplin, which received $100,000 to provide health services to women and children victimized by domestic violence; and
• The House Inc. in Webb City, which received $100,000 for transitional housing and support services for recovering substance abusers in southwest Missouri;
Established in 2000, MFH is a nongovernmental funding source for community health activities in the state. To date, the organization has issued more than $215 million in grants.[[In-content Ad]]
