Missouri Ethics Commission, Jared Outdoor reach consent order

Posted online

A consent order has been agreed upon between the Missouri Ethics Commission and Jared Outdoor LLC related to campaign donations made last year to Springfield Public Schools Board of Education candidates.

The April 18 consent order, which lists the MEC as the petitioner and respondents as Jared Outdoor and owner Curtis Jared, states that the parties mutually agree that Jared Outdoor did not register with the MEC as required under Missouri law ahead of making contributions to school board candidates.

Jared Outdoor made in-kind contributions of $7,500 each for April 2024 school board candidates Maryam Mohammadkhani, Chad Rollins and Landon McCarter for advertisements on the company's digital billboards, according to the order.

The order lists a fee in the amount of $21,500 against the respondents but states that if $2,150 is paid within 45 days, the remainder will be stayed.

Jared could not be reached for comment by deadline.

The MEC investigated the issue following a complaint filed with the commission, according to the order.

"The commission determined there were reasonable grounds to believe violations of the law had occurred and authorized a hearing," the consent order reads.

Past Springfield Business Journal reporting indicates the MEC reached a separate consent order in December with Truth in Politics and Jared, its president, among others, for failure to register as a committee, failure to report contributions, failure to report expenditures and failure to file reports.
