Over the last three years, the office has collected more than $1.87 million from noncompliant employers, according to a news release.
“Missouri's workers deserve protection on the job, and these employers were not providing that protection the law requires,” Attorney General Jay Nixon said in the release. “This put their employees at risk and created an unfair advantage for the lawbreakers over the employers who play by the rules.”
Nixon said his office would pursue penalties for employers who don’t have the necessary workers’ comp insurance. Nixon required 131 employers to obtain workers’ comp insurance in 2006, according to the release.
