Missouri Department of Revenue director resigning

Posted online

Missouri Department of Revenue Director Joel Walters is resigning from his post.

Walters has faced crticism by lawmakers over his agency's handling of tax code changes expected to reduce or wipe out thousands of state tax refunds.

Officials with Gov. Mike Parson’s office said an announcement about Walters would be made this morning.

The revenue department reportedly drafted a press release late last year about the issue but did not send it.

“We now know the Parson administration was aware of the looming tax bills last fall,” said House Minority Leader Crystal Quade, D-Springfield, “even drafting a news release warning Missourians, but chose not to release it close to the election.”
