Missouri criminal code rewrite lessens penalties for marijuana

A rewrite of Missouri's criminal code went into effect Jan. 1 that eliminate jail time for some offenders caught with marijuana. 

Possession of fewer than 10 grams is now a class D misdemeanor, down from a class A previously.

That means offenders would pay a fine of up to $500 and not face jail time.
