Missouri today becomes the first U.S. state to regulate the use of the word "meat."
The rule prohibits food makers from using the word to describe anything other than animal flesh.
The law forbids "misrepresenting a product as meat that is not derived from harvested production livestock or poultry." Violations can come with a fine or imprisonment.
