In a list of banks ranked by fee income compiled by Bank Director magazine, UMB Financial Corp. ranks ninth and Commerce Bancshares Inc. ranks 29th. The St. Louis Business Journal reports the Kansas City-based banks are gathering noninterest income of 58 percent and 39 percent of total operating revenue, respectively.
The list focuses on fee income, which is made up of overdraft fees, checking accounts and debit card transactions, and nondepository lines of business such as trust and private banking, investment banking, insurance brokerage and cash management services.
UMB has $15.7 billion in total assets, and Commerce has $22.2 billion.
