Millwood golf club sells to former GM

Posted online
Millwood Golf & Racquet Club has sold to a longtime general manager, according to a statement on the organization's website.

The Ozark club, which was founded in 1995 by Keith Keltner, has been purchased by Dan and Janie Schumacher and a few other family members for an undisclosed amount. Dan Schumacher served as general manager of the course from its opening until October 2008, said Millwood CEO Kristy Horton, who declined to comment further about the sale.

"The family has been discussing retirement for the last few years. With very mixed emotions, we have decided that it is time for the Keltners to retire and enjoy time together as a family. The last 17 years have been amazing, and we will miss the daily activity of the club," the statement said.

The statement noted the sale would result in little change for the club's members.

"While we will try to keep the disruptions to a minimum, the transition between ownership groups will likely result in a few hiccups during the next week or two," the statement said.

Neither Schumacher, general manager of Fremont Hills Country Club in Nixa, nor Keltner could be reached for comment by deadline.

The course, 3700 E. Millwood Drive, has a par of 70 for men and a par of 71 for women and had a membership base of 600 as of late 2011, according to Springfield Business Journal list research.

In 2004, Millwood Golf & Racquet Club was selected for the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce's W. Curtis Strube Small Business Award. At the time, it had 500 members and was among only 5 percent of U.S. country clubs to turn a profit in 2003, according to SBJ archives.[[In-content Ad]]
